For a duplex, bachelor pad in the West Village, we replaced the floors with a natural-stained white oak.
For this young family, we sought to open up the space, improve the quality of the light, and infuse the brownstone with a mellow, modern, and young quality reminiscent of it's owners.
We created two separate living zones: a place to lounge together and watch TV, and a place to be alone. The softer surfaces: navy, oversized sofa and neutral jute rug is where the family spends most of its time, and is juxtaposed against the more contemplative sitting area that looks out onto the quiet, residential street.
Upstairs, in Beatrice’s playroom, we drew inspiration from Alice in Wonderland.
WE CHOSE A BOLD, BUT SUBTLE GARDEN PRINT FOR THE WALLPAPER COLORS AND OFFSET IT WITH A BOLD, BLACK AND WHITE STRIPED RUG. LIKE ALICE, BEATRICE CAN HOST TEA PARTIES FOR HER FRIENDS AND DIVE INTO THE RABBIT HOLE OF HER TEEPEE .
Soapstone countertop, backsplash and shelf frames the kitchen.
